5 Inspiring Indian Instagram Accounts You Can Learn From

BYdeveloper

Posted on 25 Feb 2020

It is said that success is only limited by your creativity. While that is true, when it comes to social media, sometimes it can also be limited by your exposure. If you’re a social media marketer or if you work at a social media marketing agency, staying on top of the game by following and seeking inspiration from the ground-breaking accounts, can take you a long way.

As a digital marketing agency in Goa, we draw a lot of inspiration from the social media gems being produced in the country and we have decided to round up five of the best Indian Instagram accounts you can follow for some inspiration.

Humans of Bombay

Just like their NY counterparts, Humans of Bombay is one of those rare profiles where the caption, using beautiful storytelling, is just perhaps more touching than the photos themselves. If you’re looking for inspiration when it comes to telling stories in your captions, start here.

“I grew up in Pakistan–we had a booming family business & lived in luxury. I studied until the 5th grade & topped, but then everything changed. It was 1947 & the partition had happened. The military took us to a refugee camp where we stayed for 20 days before boarding a train to ‘new India’. The journey was excruciating–there was no food, water or toilets. The coaches were so crowded that people died of suffocation. The train stopped in the middle of jungles–people would be beaten with sticks & stones. People were stabbed; rioters were out to kill. Each time the train halted, we waited for death. 2 of my aunts & a cousin lost their lives because they had to cross the border on foot. We were lucky the army protected us on the train. When we got here, we felt relief–we didn’t have to fear death. At Sonipat, I met Nehru Ji. He comforted us, gave us supplies & said, ‘Now you’re here, you don’t have to be afraid!’ We were then set up in tents & got jobs–my parents as labourers & I sewed & sold clothes. Finally, we got our ration cards, groceries & cottages to start over & normalcy returned. Soon after, I got married. From living in havelis in Pakistan, to living on scraps wasn’t easy. But looking back, I’ll tell you this: we often hear stories about how friends & neighbors turned against each other during partition. Truthfully, we were helped the most by Muslims. They risked their lives to give us safe passage to refugee camps. Once across the border, they made us feel at home. When we arrived, a Muslim family gave up their meal for us! We forget that Muslim families were crossing the border too–we’ve survived together. I always tell my kids that we never changed countries. The places on either side of the border were ‘home’. We just moved from one to another. We’re alive because of the families that helped us. Today, when I watch the news, it angers me that, that unity & brotherhood is lost. As someone who’s 90 & seen the worst of violence, I’ll tell you this–violence is never the answer. Brotherhood saved so many lives, perhaps even mine & that’s why it’s your duty to live as one. For me–my home will always be Hindustan; two nations undivided.”
