How to Encourage Action on Social Media

How to Encourage Action on Social Media

Any of your social media content efforts are only as valuable as the action they inspire. If not, your content would pretty much just be shouting into an abyss unheard, and well, invisible.

Now, it may seem like the lack of activity is out of your control. However, that is far from the truth. There is a lot that goes into your content and strategy that can inspire and encourage action.

Use Images

First of all, if you are creating any kind of social media content, incorporate images to the maximum. There’s a reason platforms such as Pinterest, Instagram, and Snapchat work so well. Internet users respond to images. Go a step further and make the images pop using colours, or featuring portraits.

Use Humour

Be funny. It’s quite simple. There’s nothing like humour to instigate a response. And social media is one of those channels people use to destress. Whether it’s a meme or a witty one-liner in your caption, humour is a great hook.

Prompt the reaction you want

On social media, you are interacting with humans. And one of the easiest ways to trick people into a reaction is to prompt a response. Now, you can do so by using language or even better throwing in an amused or ecstatic emoji, to inspire that ‘like’.

Give away freebies

People love freebies. Sponsor a giveaway for them and couple it with urgency (think deadlines or limited capacity) and encourage people to share it with their friends.

Optimise your call-to-action

Often, the lack of action could be the result of the lack of an obvious or compelling call-to-action. There are two ways you can optimise your call to action – linguistically or visually.

You can either use a witty short line to create a compelling CTA or you can use visual elements to make it stand out, thereby prompting your audience to click on it or perform the action solicited.
